All over the country, state legislatures are in session and considering new laws to expand access to death with dignity. Here’s a snapshot of the latest activity.

  • This year, Washington, Hawai’i, and Vermont introduced bills to expand access to their existing death with dignity laws. (Unfortunately, the Washington proposal will not move forward this session, but Hawai’i and Vermont are still under active consideration.)
  • 17 states have pending death with dignity bills in their state legislatures.
  • Virginia‘s pending bill had a public hearing, an important milestone for new legislation.
  • Delaware‘s pending bill advanced favorably out of the House Health & Human Development Committee.
