In September, 2022, Zach, a Brooklyn resident, got the call from his mother that he had been dreading for quite some time: His 91-year-old grandfather, Zaide, was dying. Zach flew out to San Francisco that night and helped Zaide die using California’s End of Life Option Act.

After experiencing the good death that Zaide was afforded in California, Zach now advocates for legalizing medical aid in dying for New Yorkers like himself – who deserve the liberty to choose assisted dying if they become terminally ill.
