“Change does not come from Concord. We bring it to Concord.” – Rebecca Brown
Sharing news that a bill didn’t advance is never easy. But as a former New Hampshire State Representative, and now as the leader of the New Hampshire Alliance for End of Life Options, I know this temporary setback is exactly what we needed to build momentum this year, and to return stronger next year.
Despite strong bipartisan support, HB254 was tabled by the New Hampshire House. This move, led by opponents unwilling to face debate or risk the bill passing, similar to 2024, prevented a final vote. Our bill sponsor champions, Representatives Bob Lynn and Marjorie Smith, attempted to bring the bill back on March 27, but fell short.
Here’s what that means: There will be no further action on HB254 this year. But because the House didn’t vote it down, we can reintroduce the bill in 2026, giving us nine months to build even stronger support. If the bill had gone to a vote and failed, we’d be forced to wait until 2027.
So, where do we stand? In a strong and growing position.
- 1,300+ advocates signed the HB254 petition.
- 200+ medical professionals and dozens of faith leaders wrote in support.
- 650+ constituents submitted testimony through the legislative portal.
Now, we ask you to take one more step:
Please thank the Representatives who stood with us and voted against tabling HB254 on March 20. You can use this spreadsheet to find their names and contact information. This is how we win—by building relationships and growing a movement rooted in dignity and freedom.
Passing life-changing legislation takes time, determination, and collective advocacy. Together, we can ensure that people in New Hampshire have the peaceful end-of-life option they deserve.
Thank you for being part of this movement.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Brown
